Part 107 in Arkansas: Farm Drones and Part 137
Arkansas farm country is where Part 107 meets Part 137. Scouting fields is Part 107; spraying rice or soybeans needs FAA agricultural approval on top.
In Arkansas, a large share of commercial drone interest comes from agriculture, especially rice and soybean country in the east. Scouting and mapping fields is ordinary Part 107 work. Spraying is not: the FAA treats dispensing agricultural products from a drone as Part 137 agricultural aircraft operations, with an exemption and operator certificate on top of Part 107.
This guide focuses on what makes flying in Arkansas different. State and local rules on privacy, trespass and parks still apply, and the Part 107 rules apply everywhere.
Where does Part 107 stop on a farm?
Imaging, scouting and mapping stay under Part 107. Spreading seed, fertilizer or pesticide brings in Part 137 and an exemption from the hazardous material rule in §107.36. The agriculture guide lays out the FAA's application path.
What federal airspace matters most in Arkansas?
Little Rock has Class C airspace, and several regional airports have Class D. Field work near those airports needs authorization under §107.41 through LAANC. Agricultural aircraft also fly low over fields, so keep a lookout.
Are there parks where drones are banned?
Yes. Hot Springs National Park is a National Park Service unit. Under National Park Service Policy Memorandum 14-05, park superintendents use 36 CFR 1.5 to prohibit launching, landing or operating drones on park lands and waters, with limited exceptions; see the NPS policy. A Part 107 certificate does not change that.
What this means for the exam
Arkansas-specific rules are not on the FAA knowledge test, which covers federal rules only. The federal topics here, airspace authorization, restricted areas, weather limits and performance, are.
Other states are compared in the state drone laws guide.
