Part 107 in Indiana: Race Day No-Fly Zones

In Indiana, race days matter: the FAA's stadium flight restriction covers IndyCar and NASCAR races within 3 nautical miles, an hour before and after.

Indiana has a Part 107 restriction you will not find on a sectional chart. The FAA's stadium flight restriction covers more than ballparks: it also applies to NASCAR Sprint Cup, IndyCar and Champ Series races. On race days at a covered venue such as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, drones are prohibited within three nautical miles from one hour before until one hour after the scheduled event.

This guide focuses on what makes flying in Indiana different. State and local rules on privacy, trespass and parks still apply, and the Part 107 rules apply everywhere.

What does the stadium restriction cover?

According to the FAA, drone flights are prohibited within a radius of three nautical miles of the venue, beginning one hour before and ending one hour after the scheduled time of Major League Baseball, National Football League and NCAA Division I football games and NASCAR Sprint Cup, IndyCar and Champ Series races. The FAA's SEAMS website lists covered events. §107.47 requires compliance with flight restrictions like these.
